You’ve heard of Laurel & Hardy, Lone Ranger & Tonto, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, all famous friend pairs! But have you ever heard of Jeannie & Kimberley? Ok, we aren’t particularly famous but like Bill & Ted we have shared some excellent adventures!! Time travel is what we do after all! Well, in a manner of speaking because we buy and sell pieces from long ago! Much like Captain Kirk & Spock we will, “Boldly go where no man has gone before” in order to find our antiques!
Most recently, we loaded up into Jeannie’s ole trusty car to head off to May (that’s a town not a month) for a community wide garage sale! Our original plan was to meet in my back garden, plant some butterfly attracting flowers and then go out for lunch! But just give us a whiff of a sale and all of our other plans will go flying out the window!
So, as we’re driving to our sale destination, Jeannie declares that she won’t be making any purchases today! To which I skeptically raise one eyebrow and reply with a nod and a, “Hmmm.” I’ve learned to take such statements from her with a grain of salt!
At our very first stop, Jeannie purchases a giant letter P that I spotted hidden in a dark corner behind a stack of other items. The P is an important part of this story as it becomes our comic relief item of the day! And after all, we do fancy ourselves being a bit of an Abbott & Costello pair, always laughing with and at each other!
So, a P for Jeannie and a rusty old turkey feeder for me, which I plan to use in the kitchen at “Wildflower Manor.” It will hold dishes! How creative is that?! I can’t take the credit for that idea though (thanks Becky, I really love ❤️ your ideas).
So, “Ole Trusty” generously holds all of our purchases and we head over to the next sale at the local community building! There, my sneaky friend slips off and finds the best buy of the day! Once she’s made the deal, she saunters back into the room to find me and proudly announces, “You’ll never believe what I just found! Come see!” Then like Vanna White & Pat Sajak presenting a fabulous prize on Wheel of Fortune, Jeannie gleamingly indicates towards this perfectly sized, glisteningly beautiful secretary desk with tons of unique character! I groan with disappointment, as my eyes are filled with stars, I want it! Jeannie boasts that she’s bought this fantastic piece of antique furniture for only $80.00! “By the way,” she says, “I may need to borrow some cash from you to buy it!” My mouth drops open in unbelief just before I respond with a, “Humph!” Of all the nerve! Then I ask, hoping to deter her, “Where are you going to put that thing?!” Chuckling, I state, “The car is already full with your P!” (Remember the P is our comic relief 😂! I don’t know about y’all but I just laughed so hard that I cried!)
Well, Mary Poppins (AKA Jeannie) somehow manages to single-handedly (a bit of an exaggeration inserted here for drama purposes) fit not only that secretary desk into the back of “Ole Trusty,” but also the P, the feeder and all of the other items that we’d bought! Each one snuggly tucked inside! I admit, I was thoroughly impressed!!! You’d think instead of a car, that we were driving around in the spacious Scooby Doo & Shaggy van 🚐! “Zoinks! It looks like we’ve got ourselves a mystery!”
Now with such successes tucked under our belts we were both feeling as brave and adventurous as Han Solo & Chewbacca so we decide to zoom over to Rising Star (a town not a galaxy) to have one last chance at a bargain! We bought a couple of $1.00 items there.
Finally, exhausted and ravenous but satisfied that our sale day has taken us, like Buzz & Woody, “To infinity and Beyond!” We make a pit stop to have our much needed lunch (a deluxe deli sandwich and pickle). Our meal is complimented with an animated conversation between us covering everything of interest faith, family, friends, fun and finds.
Such a fab time and outing together but like Dorothy & Toto we definitely were thinking, “There’s no place like home!”
As we pull up to “Storybook Cottage,” Jeannie kindly offers to help me plant the flowers that we bypassed earlier for the thrill of the sales, so we finish the day off digging in the dirt and melting in the hot sun.
I couldn’t be more content and thankful to have such a lovely friend to share the day with! ❤️
My girls, Jewel and Pearl, helping me to display my sale finds! The turkey feeder was $10.00, the 3 vintage strawberry plates were $1.00 total! The metal roosters were $1.00 each (I plan to paint those red). The vintage swan candelabra was $5.00. The various strawberry pots were 50 cents each! The little pink and yellow shelf (behind Jewel), I bought for $3.00 to use as a display shelf in our booth at “Ricochet.”
The grand prize of the day! Can you believe Jeannie bought this beautiful antique for only $80.00?!! What did I learn? Watch Jeannie like a hawk and if she exits a room follow behind very closely! Like Hall & Oates, I’ll be singing “Private Eyes are Watching You!” 😉
One of Jeannie’s cute finds! A plant cart for just $3.00!
Jeannie holding her P 😂 in her very pretty garden! She paid $15.00 for her metal initial!
The “Community Sale” that we went to was located in a small town called May! As we were heading back home we passed the local general store and there were 2 horses tied to the posts in between the parked cars! We turned back around to take a picture just for you to see proper Texas country living!
